BDMI invests in online startup Nonabox
The young Internet company is already successfully established in Spain and Italy.
Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments (BDMI), Bertelsmann SE & Co. KGaA’s venture capital fund, is buying a stake in Nonabox, an international startup. The investment will be used to advance the growth of the company, which has already launched successfully in Spain and Italy, and support its establishment in Germany. Cabiedes & Partners (Spain) and H-Farm Ventures (Italy) are co-investors in this round of financing.
Nonabox offers an innovative subscription model for pregnant women and mothers of children under the age of 2 years. After registering on the Nonabox homepage (e.g. www.nonabox.de in Germany), each month customers receive a box containing high-quality products by noted manufacturers, e.g. baby clothing, food and toys, individually compiled based on their personal preferences and their child’s requirements. This gives subscribers an opportunity to test new products and discover new brands each month. The service is already successfully established in Spain and Italy, and will make its market debut in Germany in October.
Sarah Mettler, a veteran of the German startup scene, has been appointed as CEO of the German business: “I’m very excited about my new position at Nonabox and of course about BDMI’s support. Nonabox is an innovative and high-quality product which, after positive experiences in Spain and Italy, we would like to use to target the highly interesting demographic of pregnant women and young mothers in Germany as well. At the same time we offer established brand-name manufacturers an attractive platform and direct access to the target group.”
Tobias Schirmer, Principal at BDMI, says: “Nonabox has already proven in Spain and Italy that its business model unites a viable subscription offer with a clearly defined, attractive target group. The investment gives us a chance to participate in a company growing rapidly on an international scale.”
Each month Nonabox delivers a box containing high quality, carefully selected products for pregnant women and mothers of children up to 2 years of age. The products are individually tailored to the child’s gender and age or the month of pregnancy, and the mother’s preferences. In this way, Nonabox customers can test new products and discover brands each month. The box is available as a subscription or individually for 25 EUR. Each box contains products worth about 75 EUR.
Nonabox is already available in Spain and Italy, and will make its debut in Germany in October. For more information: www.nonabox.de or www.facebook.com/nonabox.de.
