With an expanded physical presence in the US, and thus a greater access to the US technology industry with its participants and thought leadership, Cartagena has firmly established itself as an international advisor catering to technology companies with international ambitions regarding M&A and capital raising transactions.
Appointment of Ulf Angelin as a second partner in the US
Based in New York, Ulf Angelin will focus on M&A and capital raising transactions for Cartagena’s international clients in the ICT industry. He will work closely with the existing Silicon Valley partner Dirk Kanngiesser. Ulf has broad technology domain knowledge and experience across software, IT, mobile, telecom, media, and cloud computing. He also has over 12 years of investment banking experience with a focus on technology cross-border transactions with UBS, Fredericks Michael, and Trenwith Securities in London and New York, and has managed over 40 transactions and investments in more than 20 countries in Europe, Americas and APAC totaling over $15 billion. Ulf has also held international product management and business development positions at Ericsson in Sweden, US and Brazil, and served as CFO of a European listed mobile company. Ulf holds an International MBA from the University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, and a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, from Lund University, Lund, Sweden.

Christian Jorg, Executive Advisor, Digital Media, New York
Christian has 20 years experience as a media business leader, and is widely regarded as a pioneer in digital media. He is currently CEO of Opentopic, a New York-based SaaS company enabling content curation and distribution. He previously held positions as SVP at Gerson Lehrman Group and SVP/Head of Digital at Universal Music Group. He also served as Executive Vice President and was part of the founding team at Acotel Interactive where Christian helped to develop it into one of the world’s leading direct to consumer mobile entertainment companies with over $100 million in revenue. At the start of his career, Christian founded the new technologies group for Bertelsmann AG/BMG Entertainment, and later became a Senior Executive at Imax Corporation. He currently serves on several Advisory Boards for start-ups, and is a frequent speaker at conferences on digital media. Christian holds a M.Sc. degree in Economics from the University of Munich, Germany, and an MBA in Marketing from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business, New York, New York.
Michael Kelly, Executive Advisor, Software, Silicon Valley
Michael has a strong network with senior software industry executives in the US, Europe, and China. He founded, managed and restructured several companies in Europe (Germany and Estonia), and the US. He is currently a consultant to early stage technology companies and a mentor/advisor to the German Silicon Valley Accelerator. Michael has previous technology experience as a Co-Founder of First Ventury, an early stage Heidelberg-based VC sponsored by Klaus Tschira, an SAP co-Founder. He also served as President and CEO of a California-based signal processing software company which he listed in the UK. In addition, Michael was MD of a California-based risk management software company where he managed its sale to Moodys. Michael’s investment banking experience includes management positions at large international banks in Germany and the US, including Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, Bank of America, and American Express Bank GmbH, where he was CEO. Michael holds a BA and MBA from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California.
Eric Muller, Executive Advisor, Software, Silicon Valley
Eric is an experienced software entrepreneur and executive in the mobile, social, cloud and enterprise software segments. He founded and served as CEO of a software start-up that he successfully sold to Borland. In addition, he has led cross-functional teams, developed and executed marketing and alliance strategies, and shipped award-winning software products in his roles at Borland Software, SAP, and Accenture. As COO of the Society of Kaufmann Fellows (a network of 250 venture capital firms and entrepreneurs operating in 50 countries), Eric built a superb network across the VC community in Silicon Valley, and globally. He holds an MBA from Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut, and a B.Sc., degree in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Steve O’Donnell, Executive Advisor, Storage & Cloud, New York
Steve has over thirty years experience as an entrepreneur, senior manager, businessman, and investor, and is globally recognized as a thought leader in solid state storage, cloud computing, data centers, managed services, IT security, big data analytics, and sustainability. Steve serves on the board of several companies, including LANIX, Rackwise, Erbut, and Violin Memory. He was formerly CEO of Greenbytes, a US-based start-up in the data center technology space, and Global Head of Data Centre Operations at BT Plc in the UK, where he won six industry sustainability awards for delivering BT’s 21st century vision. In addition, Steve founded DCMI, a data center optimization firm later sold to Glasshouse Technologies, US. He also served as CEO of MEEZA, a Qatar Foundation data center business. Steve also headed IT Infrastructure at First Data, and Infrastructure at Cable & Wireless. Steve is the author of “What Every CIO Wants – a guide for global technology salespeople”. He is a member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and the British Computer Society.
Mike Rogers, Executive Advisor, IT Security, Silicon Valley
Mike has been an experienced deal-maker for a number of US technology firms. He is currently President and CEO of The Revenue Group, a consulting firm he founded to provide complex strategic planning and buy-side M&A execution for small and medium-sized technology companies. Mike’s expertise comes from holding executive positions in corporate development and strategy, including positions as SVP Corporate Development at Lumension Security, VP Corporate Development at Secure Computing, VP Corporate Development at Cyberguard Corp., and VP Corporate Development at OpenTV. His experience also includes positions as Vice President at Mellon Bank and Fuji Bank. Mike holds a BA in Economics from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and an MBA from Thunderbird University, Glendale, Arizona.
